26 Supporting Members

Since the founding of IAWS in 1966, there have been “Sustaining” (now called “Supporting”) Members. The purpose of this was to invite the involvement of wood science organizations in the activities of the Society. As defined by the Constitution : “Supporting Members shall be educational, research, industrial, or governmental organizations and individuals, who are actively engaged in carrying out or promoting research in wood science or the enhanced utilization of wood on the basis of scientific or technological principles and practices. “

Potential Supporting Members are identified by the Academy and invited to submit an application, including a statement that outlines the objectives of the institution, the wood science program, and a list of relevant publications for the past three years. The Academy Board votes on the application, and once approved, the results are conveyed to the organization by the President.

All Supporting Members shall have the same rights as Fellows to participate in Academy meetings, conferences, lectures, and other scientific or educational activities. Supporting Members have the privilege of designating a Representative (who may or may not be a Fellow), to represent the organization in the Academy.
